Inquiry on Autism Announced by Victorian Government

Amaze was pleased to hear this week that on the 6 May 2015, the Parliament of Victoria agreed to the motion to have the Family and Community Development Committee conduct an inquiry on autism. Specifically, the inquiry will investigate the following matters:
(a) the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder in Victoria;
(b) the availability and adequacy of services provided by the Commonwealth, State and local governments across health, education, disability, housing, sport and employment services;
(c) the adequacy of services to be provided under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS);
(d) evidence of the social and economic cost of failing to provide adequate services; and
(e) the projected demand for services in Victoria.
The Family and Community Development Committee will report back to the Parliament by 31 May 2016: following that date, the government has 6 months to respond to the report.
There has not yet been any announcement regarding the members of the Committee or how the Committee will conduct its work. Amaze will maintain a watch over these developments and keep our community informed as we find out more.
