In November 2019, the Australian Senate agreed to establish a Select Committee on Autism. The committee is to inquire into and report on the services, support and life outcomes for autistic people in Australia and the associated need for a National Autism Strategy.
The Australian Autism Alliance, of which Amaze is a member, advocated for a National Autism Strategy as one of the priorities in our Federal Election Manifesto, and was involved in the development of the Terms of Reference. The Terms of Reference are the issues that the Committee will inquire into, and can be found on the Committee’s website.
Submissions are to be provided to the Committee by 14 April 2020. The Committee will then organise public hearings. The Committee is due to present its report by October 2021.
Amaze will continue to advocate on behalf of autistic people through this Inquiry, including by preparing a submission. We will keep the Amaze community updated as we develop our approach to obtaining the views of our community for this important Inquiry.
