Amaze Term 3 School Survey Results

Learning in Lockdown

A couple of weeks ago, we asked the Amaze community in Victoria to tell us about their experiences of schooling during Term 3

We received an amazing response. Your powerful feedback and results provide incredible insight into what has been happeningWhile families have reported vastly different experiences, key findings include:

  • Over two-thirds of respondents (70% in metro government schools) indicated a decline in students’ mental health and wellbeing,
  • Half reported that students’ learning had not progressed
  • Significant numbers commented that students had stopped engaging with schooling altogether
  • There is very high desire to return to school

The results are helping us continue to advocate to the Victorian Government to better support autistic students. The option for a priority return to school, targeted catch up support – including additional time at school where needed, strengthened mental health and wellbeing supportbetter modifications and adjustments to enable autistic students to learn, and stronger infection control measures are some of the key actions we are calling for.

A big thank you to all who participated.
