COVID-19 vaccination eligibility

Each state and territory has slightly different eligibility criteria for accessing COVID-19 vaccines.

This is a brief guide of each state and territory’s criteria with links to official resources for more information.

Please Note: Advice around vaccine eligibility is rapidly changing and different for every state and territory. This information was last updated on 13 September.

 

Nationwide:

– Anyone in Phase 1A and 1B is now getting vaccinated. This includes people with disability and disability workers who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Read more information on the eligibility here.

– All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged over 16 can now get vaccinated. Visit the individual state or territory health websites below to make an appointment.

– All NDIS participants aged 16 and over and carers aged 16 and over can now get vaccinated. From Wednesday, 25 August, the vaccine rollout will be expanded to include all NDIS participants aged 12 to 15.

– From 13 September, ALL children aged between 12 to 15 years are eligible to receive a Pfizer vaccine. Read more information here.

– Pregnant women of all ages are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Read more information on the eligibility here.

– Those aged 18-59 years of age can choose to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine

  • following an appropriate assessment of suitability by a qualified health professional; and
  • if you provide verbal or written consent.

– Everyone aged 16-39 years will be eligible to get the Pfizer vaccine from 30 August. The Eligibility Checker will be updated and more information about how to make a booking will be available soon. 

 

New South Wales: 

– Anyone in Phase 1A and 1B, and everyone aged 40 and over can get vaccinated.
– People aged 16 to 39 who are residents of the following local government areas and suburbs can access priority vaccination appointments: 

  • Bayside 
  • Blacktown
  • Burwood 
  • Campbelltown
  • Canterbury-Bankstown
  • Cumberland
  • Fairfield
  • Georges River
  • Liverpool
  • Parramatta
  • Penrith
  • Strathfield

Victoria:

– Anyone in Phase 1A and 1B, and everyone aged 40 and over can get vaccinated by making an appointment. 
– From 25 August, anyone aged 16 and over can get vaccinated by making an appointment.
– Priority access to vaccination is available for all residential aged care workers and residential disability care workers from 23 – 29 August. This vaccine blitz applies to: 

  • All workers in residential aged care and disability care settings are eligible, including staff, paid and unpaid carers and volunteers
  • People attending sites infrequently such as management, therapists/practitioners, advocates and maintenance workers

Queensland:

– Anyone in Phase 1A and 1B, and everyone aged 16 and over can get vaccinated. 
– Vaccine registration and more information available here

 

Australian Capital Territory:

– Anyone in Phase 1A and 1B, and everyone aged 30 and over can now get vaccinated. People aged between 16-29 can register for an appointment to receive a Pfizer vaccination at an ACT Government clinic.

Northern Territory:

– Everyone aged 12 and over are eligible to get vaccinated.

South Australia:

– Anyone in Phase 1A and 1B, and everyone aged 16 and over can now get vaccinated.

Tasmania:

– Anyone in Phase 1A and 1B, and everyone aged 30 and over can get vaccinated.

Western Australia:

– Anyone in Phase 1A and 1B, and everyone aged 16 and over can book to get vaccinated.
