Partnership with APM Communities to support Autistic NDIS participants

Established autism organisation Amaze and NDIS Partner in the Community APM Communities are joining forces to improve service quality and the experience of Autistic people and their families who are seeking support through the NDIS. The partnership will be officially kicking off later this month, with Amaze providing quality evidence-informed support and education for the APM Communities team.

This will improve the team’s understanding of autism, Autistic people and their varied lived experiences, and the supports needed to ensure that Autistic people and their families can live their best lives.

Through the partnership Amaze and APM Communities are working together to identify and develop required training and resources based on information gathered from LAC’s and the Autistic community about their experiences.

The principal focus of the partnership for the APM Communities Local Area Coordination (LAC) teams is to enhance their service delivery with these learnings. In addition, they can more proactively support people living with disability to understand and access the NDIS. The strength in this partnership has the potential to be wide reaching and lead to long lasting change in the many experiences had by Autistic people and people with a disability when navigating the NDIS.   

Amaze CEO, Jim Mullan, is confident the partnership will support an enhanced NDIS experience for the Autistic community.

Jason Diederich, General Manager APM Communities explained that APM Communities’ LAC’s assist people with a disability to access the support they need to realise their goals and improve their independence.

“We know everyone’s needs are different and our LAC’s work directly with individuals and their families to identify and access suitable supports.”

“This includes helping individuals achieve their goals and aspirations by connecting them with community and mainstream supports,” said Jason.

“As understanding of neurodevelopmental disabilities grows, so does awareness and recognition of autism and we want to ensure our team are equipped with the knowledge and understanding to better engage and support Autistic people and their families through our services.”

The training and resources will enable the APM Communities’ LAC’s to improve the support and service delivery provided to Autistic people and their families and carers.

APM Communities delivers NDIS Partners in the Community services in parts of Western Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory.

Their Local Area Coordinators (LACs) help people with disability, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants, families and carers to identify and access the support they need.
