How to use this website

As we designed and built this website, Amaze has prioritised access and ease of use at every stage. This page explains some of the different accessibility features and functions of the site, and also has some advice for creating a more accessible experience as you navigate.

Coded into the top right corner of all pages, but not visible to users, is a ‘skip to content’ link. This allows assistive device users to quickly skip over the site navigation to the page content.

Site navigation

The site has been structured simply to allow for easy navigation.

The main menu at the top of the page has 8 tabs. Each tab represents a ‘section’ of the website, which have lots of pages of information. You can see what’s in each section by clicking on the tab name.

The I am: drop-down menu allows you to choose an identity – for example, autistic person or employer – and then navigate directly to a landing page that has information specific to that identity.

Most pages, except for the home page, have a ‘breadcrumb’ trail at the top of the page, which shows your current location and provides links to levels of the website above your current page location. Breadcrumb trails show you where you are in the website, and allow you to go directly to a higher level of the site.

This navigation style is called a ‘breadcrumb’ after the story of Hansel and Gretel and the trail they left in the forest to help them trace their steps.

You can always click on the Amaze logo on the top left of the website to navigate back to the home page.

Content

On the home page and section landing pages, content is arranged in ‘cards’ which link to individual pages or secondary landing pages. These cards use graphics and text to show you what they are about.

Information is displayed in a few different ways throughout the other pages of the website:

  • Main content on pages is left justified. It uses the Amaze brand font, and has been spaced for good readability.
  • Accordions are a tool that display lots of information in ‘stacks’. Users can choose to expand a stack to see all of the information, or collapse the stack to hide the information. You can choose to expand or collapse all of the stacks, or just one at a time.
  • Downloadable files are represented in blue blocks, with a file icon.

Search

The site search offers a direct method of finding information on the Amaze website. You can find the search function by clicking on the magnifying glass icon at the top right of the website.

Links

The content of all text-based links has been written clearly and concisely to aid users with assistive devices, in line with WCAG 2.0 guidelines. Links are displayed with an underline. When you hover over a link, it will turn blue.

Images

Text alternatives have been provided for all images, where possible. Images that are purely decorative have not been given text alternatives.

Colour

The colours used on this website are Amaze’s brand colours. We have chosen colours that provide good contrast between text and backgrounds. We have avoided colour combinations that are known to cause difficulties for people with low vision and/or sensory sensitivity.

Responsive design

This website has been designed to be responsive to the device you’re viewing it on. The text and images should move around and change size to suit your device.

This can also be helpful if you’re navigating the site on a desktop computer and find it challenging to read long lines of content. You can change the width of your browser window, and the text will adjust with the browser. This helps make the text lines shorter and easier to read.
